Temat: Enquiring about Msc. courses?
Thanks again, I've sort of reconsidered looking at msc. programs here, some seem quite tolerant about GRE scores if the rest is ok, beides there are some interesting research oppurtunities that would be hard to follow up in the UK, Mote for example takes grad students for projects nd seeing i kow some people there now I could have the oppurtunity to do some really interesting projects...so that has sort of changed my mind. I am sort of confused though, so you have to write to a lecturer to apply for an Msc, don't you haave to apply for a specific course as well? And any schools...

Temat: Marine Bio Degrees in Australia and New Zealand
...Australian and New Zealand universities offer numerous benefits for students wanting to earn a graduate degree in marine biology or science, such as: • Most environmental master’s degrees can be completed in 1-1.5 years. • Bachelor's degrees are 3 years long, not 4 - you go right into studying marine bio your first freshman year, and do not take a full year of electives like you typically do at US colleges. • For graduate degrees, GRE scores are also usually not required. • Financial aid is available: you can apply for Stafford or Graduate Plus Loans, which can cover some or even all educational costs. • Scholarships: many universities offer a small number of scholarships, and AustraLearn will provide information on these upon applying. • International recognition: Many of the universities are ranked within the top 500 worldwide, and six are in the top 50. • Many...

Temat: Getting into a Marine Bio MS program
I'd say it depends on what the program is focused on. With English and Psyc backgrounds you should have relative strengths in grant writing, scientific paper writing, etc and ethology respectively. You might be able to get into programs that focus on these areas now and take "catch up" classes as part of your masters work - **if** your grades and GRE scores are strong. MS programs that focus more on "hard" science such as physics, chemistry, statistics. calc would be much less likely to accept you without more relevant background. Internships are another way to get exeperience. FWIW, I don't just look for biology majors for intern positions, I look for people with good english, physics or computer science skills depending on the project. Psyc majors might be a good choice for ethology...

Temat: Marine biology graduate school without GRE
...When you apply for scholarships or grants the person/institution with the funds has the power to, and will, make all kinds if insane inane rules. To play the game you have to adapt to them or play a different game. In many ways this silliness is actually a good thing (in a twisted kind of way!), there are already to many people and to few jobs in the field and these barriers help weed out some of the less than serious. For the record, I played a somewhat different game partially due to GRE scores. I'm American but when to your country, Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada for grad school. GRE isn’t required there. I won the best scholarship they had while I only had a few tenuous scholarship offers in the US schools I was interested in. Part of the reason was that while my grades were darn near a 4.0 but my
