Oprócz czołowej 16 rankingu w zawodach bierze udział 16 zawodników, którzy przebrnęli przez kwalifikacje, oraz 8 chińskich snookerzystów, którzy otrzymają dzikie karty. Aktualnym triumfatorem jest Ricky Walden (w finale pokonał Ronniego O'Sullivana 10 do 8). Zawody odbywają się w hali Shanghai Grand Stage, która pomieści maksymalnie 8000 kibiców. Kwalifikacje do Shanghai Masters odbyły się w dniach: 3-6 sierpień w Prestatyn. Umowa zawarta między Chińskim Związkiem Bilarda i Snookera a Światowym Związkiem Snookera gwarantuje, że chińskie turnieje Shanghai Masters i China Open będą organizowane przez conajmniej 5 najbliższych lat. "BMW has invited over 800 guests and press representatives for today's grand opening of the new BMW Welt (World) just outside of the carmaker's headquarters in Munich. The ultra-modern steel and glass structure will be used to promote BMW's cars and is described as a "car delivery and experience center." Whenever somebody comes to pick up their new car, they'll be required to wait on a grand stage before it ascends on a rotating platform ready to be driven away. The new facility stretches over 73,000 square meters and was designed by Viennese architects Coop Himmelb(l)au.
